Quicken, Resolve, Align

by Micky Wolf

There’s something about the idea of a beginning—especially a new year—that captures our attention. Having made my fair share of New Year resolutions, only to see them quietly disappear into the near fortnight of good intentions, I’m approaching 2012 from a little different perspective. The idea the inspiration of the following three words could serve to spark and set a fire within my heart and spirit to fuel clarity of purpose and action over the next twelve months has great personal appeal. Maybe they will for you as well.

  1. Quicken
…to make alive, revive; to cause to be enlivened, stimulate, kindle, to cause to burn more intensely; hasten, accelerate, to make sharper. [Merriam Webster Dictionary]

This is not a wimpy [weak, cowardly, ineffectual] word. It is bold, specific and depending upon your perspective, may be either invigorating or intimidating. Either way, allowing ourselves to be open to the possibilities that accompany a state of ‘quickening’, there is little doubt we will have the opportunity to enter into life-changing experiences.

To Ponder: What is in need of being quickened in your life? In your thoughts? In your feelings? What is being made alive? Revived? Stimulated? Kindled? Hastened? Accelerated? Made sharper? [Romans 8:11]

  1. Resolve
to dissolve, melt, break up, separate; to change by disintegration, to distinguish or make independently visible; to deal with successfully, clear up, find an answer to, make clear or understandable. [Merriam Webster Dictionary]

Nor is this a wimpy word. It is bold, specific and depending upon your perspective, may be either invigorating or intimidating. Either way, allowing ourselves to be open to the possibilities that accompany a state of ‘resolving’, there is little doubt we will have the opportunity to enter into life-changing experiences.

To Ponder: What is in need of being resolved in your life? In your thoughts? In your feelings? What is being dissolved? Melted? Broken up? Separated? Disintegrating? Made visible? Dealt with successfully? Cleared up? Made clear or understandable? [James 3:17-18]

  1. Align
to bring into line; to array on the side of or against a party or cause; to get or fall into line, to be in or come into precise adjustment or correct relative position. [Merriam Webster Dictionary]

Definitely no wimpy spelled out here. It is bold, specific and depending upon your perspective, may be either invigorating or intimidating. Either way, allowing ourselves to be open to the possibilities that accompany a state of ‘aligning’, there is little doubt we will have the opportunity to enter into life-changing experiences.

To Ponder: What is in need of being aligned in your life? In your thoughts? In your feelings? What is being brought into line? Arraying on the side of a cause? Getting or falling into what line? Coming into precise adjustment or correct relative position? [Jeremiah 29:11]

When it comes to following God’s plan for our life, taking action and being responsible is not a spectator sport—nor is it one of expending mindlessly generated energy in works of the flesh. Cooperating with God in any moment or at any time of the year is choosing to make a conscious decision to allow Him to lead the way and then placing our feet in the footprints of His one step before us. A process most surely guaranteed to be effectual for longer than any fortnight.

Happy, Blessed New Year!
