Some Musts Matter

By Micky Wolf

Some things need to be seen, more than once.

Take the framed quotation you’ll find in an impossible-to-miss spot on the wall in our first floor bathroom. It’s a great personal reminder of what it means to be a Christ-follower. More than one visitor has shared a similar sentiment.

I’d be hesitant to tell anyone they “must” do something. An exception might be with our two children and a few of their rambunctious cohorts when they were in the prime of their childhood and growing up years.

On the other hand, when a canonized saint, Teresa of Avila, suggests a few musts are in order, it seems wise to pay attention.

My beloved and I fail to live out the simplicity of these right-to-the-point exhortations on a regular basis. Nevertheless, they serve as a nudge to pick ourselves up (sometimes one another) and renew our commitment to be more loving, kind, and compassionate—toward others, one another, and self.

Which of the “musts” listed in the quote are the greatest challenge for me? Why?
