(Updated from original post December 2012)
It’s not complicated.
God knew exactly what we needed.
He started small.
He chose to come among us, the greatest gift of all.
The Way. The Truth. The Life.
The birth that changed the face of the Earth.
Let us celebrate the true meaning of Christmas.
May God’s love and presence be born anew in our hearts.
Merry Christmas 2016!
May we be indwelt with an abundance of hope, strength, courage, and joy.
Happy New Year 2017!

Take a close look at the right, mid-section of the large tree limb in the accompanying photo.
What do you see?
How about that squirrel, pausing as it ascends to the lofty branches above its present perch?
Not so quick. Not what you think you see—as my beloved and I discovered one day as we ate breakfast while observing the antics of the four-legged furry critters who inhabit our backyard.
The truth of the matter?
At first glance it’s difficult to tell the difference between what is actually the base of a wood knob that once supported a limb—and the creature it appears to be.
A good reminder for you and me when it comes to how we see and interpret the world around us, especially the people in it.
It is the wise and compassionate person who acknowledges and understands…
Things (or people) may not be what seems obvious at first glance.
There’s more to the picture than meets the eye.
Sometimes we see what we want to see.
Maybe the best gift we could give one another this Christmas and Holiday Season would be to take enough time to open our eyes—and our hearts—to see beyond the superficial. In others as well as ourselves.
To see the Truth. The goodness. The beauty. The Reality that goes deeper than a quick, first impression.
Thank heavens the first observers saw beyond what their eyes were seeing so very long ago as they knelt before the swaddled, cooing infant laying wide-eyed before them in a manger.
“Just an infant…” they could have reported.
And yet, so much more.
